Honest and Tolerant

Manchester is famous for its diversity and being a honest and tolerant city.

There is a large Jewish community which is the largest outside London and has included many famous Jewish people, like Chaim Weizmann, one of the founders of Israel.

One part of the city centre is called the "gay village" and this is where many gay and lesbian people go to drink and socialise.

In addition, there are many people in Manchester from the old colonies of Britain who now live in the UK. These include;

  • Pakistanis and Indians
  • Jamaicans and Africans
  • Chinese and Malaysians

Many of these people came to the UK because they were looking for a safe place to live, and sometimes because they could not live safely in their own country.

All of these people live together in Manchester, so it is a very cosmopolitan place.
