Travelling to A2Z Manchester

If you already live in Manchester, the nearest bus stop is Piccadily Gardens, and the nearest train station is Manchester Victoria or Manchester Piccadilly. You can also get the tram; the nearest stop is St Peter's Square or Mosley Street. Please use our photo guide to see how to get to A2Z from Primark in Piccadilly Gardens. The best way to plan your journey to the city centre is to use the Greater Manchester Journey Planner.

If you are not in Manchester now, here is some information about travelling to Manchester.

  • Manchester is in the centre of the UK. This means it is easy to travel to other parts of the UK quickly and easily.
  • Manchester has an International Airport which is the main UK airport outside London. If you can fly to Manchester instead of London this will make your journey much easier.
  • Manchester airport is about 30 minutes from our school by taxi. Liverpool airport is about 1 hour from our school by bus.
  • We do not recommend travelling from Heathrow airport in London, as this takes a long time and the journey can be expensive.

Aeroplane / Airport

Manchester International Airport is 30 minutes from our school by train or taxi. A bus takes about one hour.

You can travel from the airport to Manchester by train, bus or taxi. A taxi from the airport to the school should cost between £15 and £25.

Taxis

There are two kinds of taxis in England; black taxis which can stop and pick people up anywhere, and private hire taxis, which you have to arrange by telephone.

A private hire car looks similar to a normal car but it is usually silver or white. You have to organise this kind of taxi over the telephone, but they are usually cheaper than black taxis.

Bus

There are many buses in Manchester. It is the main way that people travel inside Manchester. Manchester has the busiest bus road in Europe, Oxford Road near  Manchester University and Manchester Metropolitan University. If you travel on the same route each day the bus can be very cheap, as cheap as £7 for one week, which is VERY cheap in England.

Manchester Metrolink Tram

Tram

Manchester has a large tram network called the "metrolink". It does not cover the whole city. You can read more information here and see a map here.

The nearest station to the school on the Manchester Metrolink is St Peters Square.

Unfortunately there is no tramline from the airport to the city centre at the moment, but in a few years there will be.

Boat

The only way to travel to Manchester by boat is to come from Ireland! So, if you are coming this way you can use this page; http://www.stenaline.co.uk/ferry/

Train

There are many stations in Manchester, the main ones are;

  • Manchester Piccadilly
  • Manchester Victoria
  • Manchester Deansgate
  • Salford Crescent

Walking

As our school is in the centre of the city it is easy to walk to and from transport interchanges. You can walk from Manchester Piccadilly or from Manchester Deansgate stations or from anywhere in Manchester! Use our photo guide.

Car

DURING THE DAY: As the school is in the city centre, travelling by car is the worst way to come to the school. There is no free parking, and congestion is often bad. The nearest pay car parks are available here.

Since 24th October 2011, parking restrictions has changed in Manchester city centre;between 8am and 20:00pm there will be no free parking on single yellow lines. Please click here for more info.
