Your first day
If you are travelling from outside the UK you might be worried about what happens.

A typical journey is like this...
-
If you have booked accommodation and transport from the airport there will be someone waiting at the airport departure point with a sign showing your name. They will take you to your accommodation.
-
If you have not booked transport then you will have to make your own way to your accommodation, perhaps the best way is to take a black taxi.
-
When you arrive at your accommodation have a good rest. If you are staying in a homestay then the family should show you round their house and especially your room, give you something to eat and show you where to get public transport to the school for the first day you will study.
If your first day is Monday then you will take part in our special Monday morning welcome session.
Here is a quick description of what your first day will be like.
-
On your first course day leave your accommodation early so that you don't arrive late. Most people in Manchester live about 20 - 40 minutes from the school by public transport.
-
Try to arrive at the school at either 8.30am for the Monday morning induction. It doesn't matter whether or not your course is a morning or afternoon course, on your first day come to the school at 8.30am.
-
Bring a pen and some paper, your passport or EEA ID document, about £20 in cash to buy your first book, and wear clothes that will protect you from British weather (waterproof and warm).
-
You might want to print a map of the school's location in case you get lost. You can show it to an English person and ask them for directions. You could also print out our photo guide.
-
When you arrive at the school , the first person you will meet is the receptionist. They will take your name and welcome you. They will probably check all your details on a computer, and they might speak your language!
-
The receptionist might have to see your passport or ID and take a copy of it. This is for UK government laws.
-
After this you will start the Monday morning induction. You might meet other students who are also new that morning. They will be probably be from other countries.
-
The school manager will give you a short talk about school rules.
-
After this you will have a break, during which one of the senior teachers will come and speak to you. The teacher will decide which level your English is, and which classes you can study in. Then you can decide together with the teacher which classes you will participate in, and what your strategy is whilst you are at A2Z.
-
After this there will be some more presentations about the school and more chances to get to know the other students.
-
After the induction session, at about 12.30, you can go and have a walk around the city. A good place to go is the city art gallery because its just across the road from the school!
-
After that why not enjoy a drink in a Rock pub like the "Night and Day Cafe" on Oldham street or "Big hands" on Oxford street.
-
After a long day its time to go home. Have a good rest and do your homework, ready for another fun day!
